A strong start led by Breetzke

Matthew Breetzke's unbeaten century gave South Africa A a strong start on day one of the first four-day match against Sri Lanka A in Kimberley. The right-hander anchored the innings, scoring 112* off 177 balls with 11 boundaries, guiding his team to a solid 294-4 by the close of play.

Contributions also came from Tshepang Dithole and Marques Ackerman, who both notched half-centuries. After winning the toss in favourable conditions, South Africa A elected to bat. Opener Dithole laid a steady foundation with a patient 52 off 130 balls, including seven boundaries. He shared a 62-run opening stand with captain Neil Brand (39), who was dismissed by Nishan Peiris (1-73).

Dithole then combined with Breetzke for a 79-run partnership, taking the total to 141-1. After Dithole’s dismissal to Eshan Malinga (2-49), Breetzke and Ackerman (69 off 97 balls, 10 fours) added another 108 for the third wicket, putting South Africa A firmly in control.

Although Ackerman and Sinethemba Qeshile (2) fell late in the day, Breetzke remained composed, reaching his century and leaving South Africa A well-placed at stumps.
