Advancing women’s cricket

Cricket South Africa (CSA) is delighted to announce the launch of the highly-anticipated CSA Professional Domestic Women’s League.

This groundbreaking initiative aims to revolutionise women’s cricket in South Africa by uniting the nation’s top domestic talent and offering equal opportunities for female cricketers to excel.

Comprising two formats, the CSA Women’s One-Day Cup and the CSA Women’s T20 Challenge, the league will showcase premier cricketers while providing a platform for emerging stars to shine.

The Department of Sports, Arts, and Culture (DSAC) has played a pivotal role with an R15 million investment over three years, underscoring the collaborative efforts between CSA and the government to advance women’s cricket.

The league’s opening fixtures will feature Western Province, reigning champions of the 50-over competition, hosting the Hollywoodbets Dolphins at Newlands, and the DP World Lions, champions of the T20 format, welcoming newcomers Recon Tactical Free State at the Wanderers.

Enoch Nkwe, CSA’s Director of Cricket, expressed his enthusiasm for the league:

“The inaugural season of the CSA Professional Domestic Women’s League is not just about cricket; it’s a statement of CSA’s commitment to fostering excellence, diversity, access, and inclusion within the sport.

“We are thrilled to kick off this League, and it’s our commitment to provide the best platform for our talented athletes to excel. This League also serves as a testament to our shared vision with the government and our corporate partners to create a brighter future for women’s cricket in our nation.”

“The League will catalyse creating a more equitable remuneration structure for women cricketers, providing them with the recognition they deserve.

“This marks a historic moment in South African cricket, as the nation embarks on a journey towards a more vibrant and professional women’s cricket landscape,” concluded Nkwe.

The CSA Professional Domestic Women’s League promises thrilling cricketing action, inspirational narratives, and a bright future for women cricketers across South Africa.
