After a terrorist threat, security was increased for T20 World Cup match
The governor's office stated in an official statement that they are keeping a close eye on the issue and that "there is no credible public safety threat at this time."
Following rumours of a potential terror threat to this high-profile ICC fixture, security has been tightened for the highly anticipated India vs. Pakistan T20 World Cup 2024 match at New York's recently constructed Nassau County International Cricket Stadium.
According to a governor's office statement, they are keeping a close eye on the issue and reassure the public that "there is no credible public safety threat at this time."
On June 9, India and Pakistan will play each other in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 at Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York.
Statement From New York Governor Kathy Hochul
“In preparation for the Cricket World Cup, my Administration has been working for months with federal law enforcement and Nassau County to ensure New Yorkers and visitors are safe. This has included close coordination with the New York State Police Counter Terrorism Unit and New York State Police Troop L, based on Long Island.”
"While there is no credible public safety threat at this time, we continue to monitor the situation closely. I have also directed the New York State Police to engage in elevated security measures, including an increased law enforcement presence, advanced surveillance, and thorough screening processes. Public safety is my top priority and we are committed to ensuring the Cricket World Cup is a safe, enjoyable experience."
Rohit Sharma & Co. will play a warm-up match against Bangladesh at the same site on June 1 before their T20 World Cup contest against Pakistan and India in New York on June 9 at the Nassau County field.
India's T20 World Cup 2024 schedule includes a match against the hosts, the USA, on June 12 and a match against Canada on June 15 at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium on the same field. Their match against Pakistan is scheduled for June 9.
