All insights about Malik's decline in his performance

Paras Mhambrey, former bowling coach of India, has pointed out the reasons for the decline in the performance of talented fast bowler Umran Malik. The right-arm pacer, known for his ability to bowl over 145 kmph, has been struggling with accuracy and consistency recently. While Umran showed potential in his IPL debut in 2021 with two wickets in three matches, it was in the 2022 season that he truly excelled, taking 22 wickets in 14 games.

Mhambrey stressed the need to nurture Umran's talent, specifically his natural pace, which initially stood out. However, the coach highlighted the importance of control and maintaining line and length in bowling, areas where Umran has faced difficulties recently. Despite his promising performances in IPL and earning caps in limited-overs cricket for India, Umran has been inconsistent in T20s.

With Umran hitting speeds of 157 kmph in the IPL and 156 kmph in international matches, his lack of control has resulted in leaking runs and losing the confidence of captains. Mhambrey suggested that playing in the Ranji Trophy will help Umran refine his skills and develop the necessary control needed to succeed in the demanding T20 format. The coach is dedicated to helping Umran regain his form and evolve into a more reliable and effective pace bowler.
