'Amazing journey' recalled by Erasmus

Marais Erasmus has retired as an umpire after officiating at the highest level of the game for the past 18 years.

The 60-year-old ended his illustrious career after the second Test between New Zealand and Australia in Christchurch.

Erasmus made his international debut in 2006 and went on to officiate in 82 Tests, 124 ODIs, 43 T20Is, and 18 women’s T20Is.

His highlights include taking part in the final of the 2019 World Cup at Lord's, as well as the finals of the 2021 and 2022 T20 World Cups in Dubai and Melbourne.

Erasmus was named ICC Umpire of the Year three times, he stated:

“It’s been an amazing journey and never did I think it would last 18 years.”

CSA is discussing opportunities with Erasmus to utilise his experience for the benefit of the cricketing community in the future.
