At the African Games, Kenya beat Team South Africa

In their second match of the African Games at the Achimota Cricket Oval on Monday, Team South Africa suffered a 70-run defeat against Kenya.

Kenya's victory was due to a half-century from Collins Obuya (58 off 47 balls; seven fours, two sixes) and a five-wicket haul by 18-year-old spinner Aarnav Patel (5-15).

After winning the toss, Kenya chose to bat first and scored 141-6 from their allotted 20 overs. South Africa was then restricted to 71 all out with five overs to spare.

Just 24 hours after South Africa's impressive 134-run victory over hosts Ghana at the same venue, they suffered a defeat.

Obuya's knock was the difference for the East African side, with Rakep Patel the next-best batsman scoring 28 off 25 balls.

Heinrigh Pieterse (2-23) was the pick of the bowlers, while Dylan Bester (1-21), Jason Raubenheimer (1-30) and Jesse Prodehl (1-42) provided support.

In response, South Africa's batsmen had a difficult time. Captain George van Heerden, who achieved his first T20 century against Ghana, was the top scorer with 22 runs.

South Africa lost their first three wickets during the powerplay. The opening pair of Maahir Joseph (12) and Pieterse (four) fell to the experienced Lucas Oluoch (2-10), before Lehan Botha was caught for one off Gerard Mwendwa (1-6).

Van Heerden and Keagan Lion-Cachet (16) then combined for a 36-run partnership, which was the highest of the innings. But regular strikes prevented South Africa from building any momentum and they crumbled from 55/3 to 71 all out in just 4.4 overs.

South Africa's final Group A match is against Uganda on Wednesday.
