Australia Dominates India in First ODI at Brisbane

Australia showcased a commanding performance to secure a five-wicket win over India in the opening match of the three-game ODI series at Allan Border Field, Brisbane. After being stunned in the T20 World Cup semi-finals, the hosts made a resounding comeback, taking a 1-0 lead in the series.

India, batting first, was dismissed for a paltry 100 runs in just 34.2 overs on a pitch that seemed ideal for batting. Megan Schutt delivered a career-best performance, claiming an impressive 5-19. Jemimah Rodrigues was the only Indian batter to show some resistance, scoring 23, but no one else managed to cross 20 as Australia’s bowlers dismantled the Indian lineup.

Chasing the modest target, Australia’s openers set a solid foundation. Phoebe Litchfield’s quickfire 35 off 29 balls provided momentum before she was dismissed by Renuka Singh Thakur, who claimed figures of 3-45. However, debutant Georgia Voll, just 21 years old, anchored the chase with a composed unbeaten 46, ensuring the home side cruised to victory in just 16.2 overs.

The second match of the series will also take place at Allan Border Field on Sunday (23:45 GMT Saturday), where India will look to bounce back and level the series.
