Bangladesh trying to reach the semifinals

In the Women's Asia Cup 2024, Bangladesh Women have kept their semifinal hopes alive with a crucial victory over Thailand Women in the 8th T20 match of the tournament. This win marks Bangladesh's first in the competition, though they still sit third in their group due to Thailand's superior net run rate.

Thailand, having won the toss, chose to bat first but struggled to form a strong innings, finishing at 96/9 after 20 overs. Rabeya Khan excelled for Bangladesh, leading the bowling attack with a remarkable four-wicket haul, showcasing her skill and precision throughout the game.

Bangladesh Women lost their first wicket at 24 runs but quickly stabilised their innings with a vital 60-run partnership between Ishma Tanjim and Murshida Khatun, who were instrumental in the chase. The match ended with Ritu Moni hitting a boundary to secure a convincing 7-wicket victory for Bangladesh.

Rabeya Khan was named Player of the Match for her outstanding performance, expressing her pleasure with both her individual achievements and the team’s overall effort.

Thailand’s captain, Thipatcha Puttawong, acknowledged the value of the experience gained by their young team and stressed the importance of building partnerships for future games.

Bangladesh captain Nigar Sultana praised her team's bowling performance and pointed out areas for improvement based on previous matches. She highlighted Murshida Khatun's consistent performance and commended Rumana Ahmed’s leadership in the middle order, despite minor injuries.
