Bangladeshi bowler was fined

During a Group D match of the 2024 T20 World Cup between Bangladesh and Nepal, Bangladeshi bowler Tanzim Hasan Sakib was fined by the International Cricket Council (ICC) for his misconduct on the field. Tanzim's aggressive behaviour towards Nepal captain Rohit Paudel during the match resulted in a penalty of 15 percent of his match fee for breaking the ICC's Code of Conduct.

The incident took place in the third over of Nepal's innings when Tanzim, in the middle of a lively bowling spell, got into a heated exchange with Rohit Paudel. Despite his outstanding bowling performance of 4/7 in four overs, including two maiden overs, Tanzim's aggressive behaviour took the spotlight away from his accomplishments. His actions were found to be a violation of Article 2.12 of the ICC Code of Conduct, which prohibits inappropriate physical contact with other players or officials.

The charges against Tanzim were brought forward by on-field umpires Ahsan Raza and Sam Nogajski, third umpire Jayaraman Madanagopal, and fourth umpire Kumar Dharmasena. Tanzim accepted the charge and the sanction proposed by Richie Richardson of the Emirates ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees, thereby negating the need for a formal hearing.

While Tanzim's aggressive spell was instrumental in Bangladesh's 21-run victory over Nepal, the fine serves as a reminder of the importance of maintaining decorum on the field. The ICC's decision underscores the commitment to ensuring that the spirit of the game is upheld at all times, regardless of the intensity of the competition.

Tanzim Hasan Sakib's fine highlights the ICC's strict stance on player conduct during international matches. While his bowling performance was outstanding, his behaviour towards Rohit Paudel was deemed unacceptable, leading to disciplinary action. As Bangladesh progresses in the T20 World Cup, Tanzim and his teammates will be reminded of the importance of sportsmanship and adherence to the game's rules and spirit.
