In a significant development, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has introduced prize money for player-of-the-match and player-of-the-tournament awards across all women’s and junior domestic cricket competitions. BCCI Secretary Jay Shah made the announcement via social media, highlighting the initiative as a step towards recognising and encouraging exceptional performances in the domestic circuit.
In men’s cricket, prize money will also be awarded for player-of-the-match honours in the Vijay Hazare Trophy and Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. Shah thanked the Apex Council for their support, stating, “This initiative aims to recognise and reward outstanding performances in the domestic circuit. Together, we are fostering a more rewarding environment for our cricketers. Jai Hind.”
Last year, the BCCI significantly increased the prize money for various domestic tournaments. The Ranji Trophy winners now receive a hefty ₹5 crore, while the Irani Cup prize was doubled to ₹50 lakh for the winners and ₹25 lakh for the runners-up. The Duleep Trophy champions receive ₹1 crore, and the Vijay Hazare Trophy winners are also awarded ₹1 crore, with the runners-up taking home ₹50 lakh.
