BCCI holds AGM to September 29

With the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) set to hold its Annual General Meeting (AGM) on September 29, there is speculation about whether Jay Shah’s replacement as Secretary will be announced on that date. Shah, who was recently elected unopposed as the Chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC), is expected to take up his new role on December 1. In the meantime, the BCCI must choose his successor as Secretary.

However, a PTI report suggests that the election of a new board secretary is unlikely to take place during this AGM in Bengaluru. Instead, it is more probable that a Special General Meeting (SGM) dedicated to the election could be scheduled at the AGM. Until then, Shah will remain in his current position before assuming his responsibilities at the ICC.

The AGM will also coincide with the launch of the new National Cricket Academy (NCA) facility on the outskirts of Bengaluru. The 93rd BCCI AGM has an 18-point agenda, including the important decision of selecting India’s representative for ICC meetings, a position that Shah will vacate once he takes up his ICC role.

There is speculation that BCCI President Roger Binny might be considered for the ICC representative role, although his age (69) could be a concern, as the upper age limit for the position is 70.
