Brook’s Century Powers England to Victory Over Australia in 3rd ODI

England captain Harry Brook scored his maiden one-day international century, leading his team to a 46-run win over world champions Australia in a rain-affected third ODI in Durham on Tuesday. The victory at Chester-le-Street kept England’s hopes alive in the five-match series, narrowing Australia’s lead to 2-1 with two games remaining.

England faced early pressure, stumbling to 11-2 in their chase of 305 after left-arm fast bowler Mitchell Starc removed both openers, Phil Salt (0) and Ben Duckett (8), within four balls. However, Brook (110*), alongside Will Jacks (84), mounted a resilient comeback, putting together a 156-run partnership for the third wicket. The pair displayed composure and attacking prowess to steady the innings.

Rain interrupted play with England at 254-4 after 37.4 overs, but they were 46 runs ahead of the required score under the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern method. When play could not resume due to the weather, England was declared the winner, ending Australia’s 14-match winning streak in ODIs.

Earlier in the match, Australia posted 304-7 after Brook won the toss. Alex Carey top-scored with an unbeaten 77, while Steven Smith contributed 60. England’s fast bowler Jofra Archer impressed with figures of 2-67.

The series continues at Lord’s on Friday.
