Scotland is set to make its debut at the Women's T20 World Cup in 2024 after earning a spot by finishing as runners-up in the qualifier tournament earlier this year. Allrounder Kathryn Bryce has been appointed captain, with her sister, wicketkeeper Sarah Bryce, serving as vice-captain for the tournament in the UAE.
Scotland's squad boasts a wealth of allrounder talent, featuring not only Kathryn Bryce but also Priyanaz Chatterji, Katherine Fraser, and Megan McColl. Head coach Craig Wallace expressed his confidence in the team, stating, "The composition and balance of this squad are outstanding. We have match-winners throughout, which marks a significant shift during my time with the team. Every player has consistently delivered key performances, contributing to the squad's success."
Scotland qualified for the T20 World Cup by finishing second to Sri Lanka in the UAE qualifiers earlier this year. Ahead of the tournament, the team demonstrated their capabilities in the Netherlands, participating in a tri-series against the host nation and Papua New Guinea, where they won five out of six matches.
Wallace remarked, "Our performance in the Netherlands was strong, and we have depth in our squad, with several impressive players not selected still showing excellent form throughout the year. It was rewarding to have positive discussions about player selections based on their hard work."
Of the 15 players from the qualifier, 13 have been included in the T20 World Cup squad. Offspinner Olivia Bell and former captain Abbi Aitken-Drummond, both of whom excelled in the Netherlands, have also earned their spots.
Scotland is grouped in Group B alongside England, Bangladesh, South Africa, and the West Indies. The team will travel to the UAE in mid-September for a training camp, which will include warm-up matches against Pakistan and Sri Lanka. Their tournament opener is scheduled against Bangladesh on October 3.
