Jos Buttler scored an unbeaten 107 to outdo Sunil Narine's first T20 century as the Rajasthan Royals completed a joint record IPL chase against the Kolkata Knight Riders on Tuesday, with the final ball of the match.
Rajasthan were in trouble at 121-6 in the 13th over while chasing 224 for victory, but Buttler accelerated in his 60-ball blitz to reach the target with two wickets to spare at Kolkata's Eden Gardens.
Rajasthan matched their record from 2020 by successfully chasing down 224 against the Kings XI Punjab in Sharjah.
Buttler, who was brought in as a substitute, scored his second century of the season in just 55 balls, hitting a six off Varun Chakravarthy at the start of the final over.
Despite struggling with cramp, Buttler managed to play out three dot balls before scoring a two and a single on the final delivery, ensuring that Rajasthan maintained their position at the top of the table with six wins in seven matches.
Buttler, from England, hit nine fours and six sixes, surpassing Chris Gayle with seven IPL centuries and trailing only Virat Kohli's eight in the T20 tournament.
Buttler formed crucial partnerships, including a 50-run partnership with Riyan Parag (34), a 57-run partnership with Rovman Powell (26), and an unbeaten 38-run partnership with Avesh Khan (0*).
For KKR, two wickets each went to Narine, Chakravarthy and Rana.
Narine scored a blistering 109 off 56 balls to guide Kolkata, who remain second in the 10-team standings, to a total of 223-6.
Narine and Raghuvanshi (30) put on 85 runs for the second wicket, and Narine and Andre Russell combined for a 51-run partnership.
In his 504th T20 match, Narine reached his century from 49 balls, hitting a six and a four off Yuzvendra Chahal for Kolkata's third hundred in the IPL.
He was bowled by a Trent Boult yorker and received a standing ovation.
Narine is now in the top three of the batting charts, behind Kohli (361) of the Royal Challengers Bangalore with 276 runs.
Rinku Singh finished the innings strongly with an unbeaten 20 off nine balls, including a four and two sixes.
