Charith Asalanka has been appointed captain of Sri Lanka's 16-member squad for the three-match T20I series against India, starting on July 27 in Pallekele. Asalanka takes over from Wanindu Hasaranga, who stepped down following Sri Lanka's early exit from the T20 World Cup in June, co-hosted by the USA and the West Indies.

Gautam Gambhir has assumed the role of the senior national team's head coach, while Sanath Jayasuriya has been appointed as Sri Lanka's interim head coach for the series.
