The West Indies secured a comprehensive eight-wicket win over the Proteas in a rain-affected match on Tuesday, completing a 3-0 sweep of the T20 International series.
Opening batsman Shai Hope anchored the West Indies' chase with an unbeaten 42 off 24 balls, while Nicholas Pooran contributed a rapid 35 from just 13 deliveries, setting the stage for the victory at the Brian Lara Stadium in Tarouba.
South Africa posted 108/4 in their 13 overs, leaving the West Indies with a revised target of 116 under the Duckworth-Lewis method. The Caribbean team reached their goal comfortably, finishing on 116/2 with 22 balls to spare.
A significant portion of the West Indies total came from boundaries, with nine sixes and seven fours accounting for 82 runs. Romario Shepherd was named man of the match for his economical bowling, taking 2/14 in two overs, which stifled the Proteas' innings.
This win was particularly satisfying for the West Indies, who were eliminated by South Africa in the ICC T20 World Cup in June.
"To come and sweep the team that knocked us out of the World Cup was great," Shepherd said.
West Indies captain Roston Chase praised his team’s performance: "We wanted to win the series 3-0. In a shortened game, we wanted the guys to play their natural game, and they did that brilliantly."
South Africa's captain Aiden Markram, who contributed 20 off 12 balls, acknowledged the challenges: "It was a tough one today. We probably had the worst of the conditions, but that’s no excuse. We can improve as a team. It’s never easy to lose, but there are lessons to take from this."
