Chris Silverwood decided to spend more time with his family

Chris Silverwood, head coach of the Sri Lankan cricket team, has resigned from his position due to the team's disappointing performance in the ongoing T20 World Cup. This decision comes shortly after former captain Mahela Jayawardene also stepped down from his role as consultant coach.

Silverwood cited personal reasons and the desire to spend more time with his family as the main factors behind his resignation. He expressed gratitude for his time with Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) and mentioned the fond memories he will carry from his tenure.

Despite some successes during Silverwood's time as head coach, such as winning the T20 Asia Cup in 2022 and securing bilateral series wins, Sri Lanka's performance in the T20 World Cup was below par, failing to advance beyond the group stages.

With Silverwood leaving, SLC is now in the process of finding a new head coach before their upcoming international series against India and a Test series in England. Jayawardene's departure has further highlighted the challenges facing the team and the need for stability.

The new coach will need to work on rebuilding the team's confidence and form for the upcoming matches against India and England. Securing a suitable replacement for Silverwood will be crucial for Sri Lankan cricket as they navigate through this period of transition.

Chris Silverwood's resignation signifies the end of an important chapter for Sri Lankan cricket. Finding a new head coach who can lead the team through its next challenges will be vital for their future success.
