Anshuman Gaekwad, the renowned Indian cricketer, passed away on Wednesday at the age of 71 after a prolonged battle with blood cancer. He had been undergoing treatment in London and returned to Baroda a month ago to continue his treatment.
Gaekwad's cricketing career was distinguished by his participation in 40 Test matches for India and 205 First-Class games over more than two decades. After retiring as a player, he transitioned to coaching, including a notable stint with the Indian national team. His coaching tenure is best remembered for the Sharjah series in 1998 and the iconic Test match against Pakistan in 1999 at Ferozshah Kotla, Delhi, where Anil Kumble took all 10 wickets in a single innings.
