Derbyshire has signed Dupavillon to fill the vacancy left by Amir

Derbyshire has signed Daryn Dupavillon, a South African seamer, as an overseas player for most of the 2024 season. Dupavillon will replace Mohammad Amir, who will be limited to six appearances for the county in the T20 Blast due to his international recall.

Dupavillon is expected to join Derbyshire in time for their County Championship fixture against Sussex, starting on May 3, after fulfilling his commitments with the Dolphins franchise in South African domestic cricket. The club has announced that he will be available in all formats until the penultimate Championship fixture in mid-September.

He is one of two overseas fast bowlers in Derbyshire's squad for the first three months of the season, along with New Zealand international Blair Tickner. Tickner will play in the Championship and the first eight Blast group games, before Amir replaces him after the T20 World Cup.

Amir stunned Derbyshire last month when he reversed his international retirement, three and a half years after his last appearance for Pakistan. He had been due to play for Derbyshire as an overseas player. However, his marriage had led him to explore the possibility of playing locally.

Derbyshire's season began with a false start last week due to a four-day wash-out at home against Gloucestershire. They will be hoping for better weather in the second round of games starting on Friday when they play Glamorgan in Cardiff.
