Dhull returns to cricket after minor health setback

Yash Dhull, who captained India to victory in the 2022 U-19 World Cup, has made a comeback to competitive cricket following a minor heart surgery. A small hole in Dhull's heart, typically a congenital condition, was unexpectedly discovered during routine scans at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in June-July.

According to Dhull's long-time coach, Rajesh Nagar, the young cricketer underwent surgery in early July and recovered within 10 to 15 days. Although not yet at his full potential, Dhull is currently playing at around 80 percent of his capacity, as noted by Nagar.

Now playing for Central Delhi Kings in the inaugural Delhi Premier League, the 21-year-old batsman has scored 93 runs in five innings, with a strike rate of 113.41 and a top score of 52.

Dhull's cricket journey has been marked by both significant achievements and challenges. After leading India to the U-19 World Cup title and scoring twin centuries on his Ranji Trophy debut for Delhi against Tamil Nadu in February 2022, he was touted as a future star. However, a dip in form and internal team issues led to his removal as Delhi's Ranji captain earlier this year, following a loss to Puducherry in the 2024 season opener.

While Dhull has also represented India A, concerns about his technique have kept him off the selectors' radar. In the IPL, his opportunities have been limited, with only four appearances for Delhi Capitals.
