In-form Dom Sibley struck his second century in three matches, guiding Surrey to their first Metro Bank One-Day Cup victory of the season and snapping a five-match losing streak. Sibley's 105, following his 149 against Warwickshire and 72 against Nottinghamshire, anchored Surrey's total of 296 for 6, despite a late collapse.
Sibley shared a 138-run opening stand with Ryan Patel (72) and a 111-run second-wicket partnership with Ben Geddes (61). The Foxes' chase, bolstered by Sol Budinger’s 70 and Tom Scriven’s career-best 55, fell short despite their efforts. Leg-spinner Cameron Steel took 3 for 48, and all-rounders Ian Holland and Scriven made notable contributions with the ball.
Surrey, batting first on an overcast morning, built their innings steadily, reaching 51 without loss in 10 overs and 125 for none at the halfway mark. Patel was dismissed unlucky, hitting the ball onto the stumps after a deflection, while Geddes made 61 before falling to a catch at deep midwicket.
Sibley reached his hundred from 115 balls but was dismissed shortly after, as Surrey’s middle order faltered, losing five wickets in seven overs.
The Foxes' chase stumbled early, with 49 for 2 after 10 overs. Rahane was dropped on four but made only 27 before being caught at midwicket. Budinger and Peter Handscomb shared a 48-run partnership before Budinger was dismissed, and Handscomb followed shortly after.
Despite a spirited effort from Scriven, who hit two sixes and added 45 with Wood, Leicestershire fell short, finishing at 279 all out. The game ended with a brilliant catch by Patel, and the Foxes' chances for qualification remain slim with three wins from five matches, while Group B leaders Warwickshire and Glamorgan are unbeaten.
A minute's silence was observed at the start of the match in memory of Graham Thorpe, the esteemed England and Surrey player.
