Greg announces to step down from his position

With Greg Barclay announcing his decision to step down, Jay Shah is now the leading candidate to succeed him as Chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC), which could create a vacancy at the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

Rohan Jaitley, the president of the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA), has dismissed rumours that he might become the new BCCI secretary if Jay Shah is appointed as ICC Chairman. Reports have indicated that Shah, currently serving as BCCI secretary, is a strong contender for the ICC role following Barclay’s decision not to seek another term.

Greg Barclay officially informed the ICC board last week of his intention to step down as ICC chairperson when his term ends in November. Barclay, who was first appointed as the Independent ICC Chair in November 2020, was re-elected unopposed in 2022.

With Barclay's departure, Shah has emerged as the most prominent candidate to take over as ICC Chairman, building on his successful tenures at both the BCCI and the Asian Cricket Council (ACC). As Shah’s term at the BCCI concludes and he enters a mandatory cooling-off period, there has been speculation that Jaitley might succeed him at the BCCI.

However, on Monday, Jaitley made it clear that he would not be taking up any roles within the BCCI. Instead, he emphasised his focus on further enhancing the popularity of the league.
