Former Indian cricketer Harbhajan Singh has issued an apology following backlash over a video in which he and his India Champions teammates were accused of mocking people with disabilities. The video, which drew criticism from disability rights groups and para-badminton star Manasi Joshi, showed the players limping and dancing to a Bollywood song after their victory in the World Championship of Legends tournament in England.
Harbhajan clarified that the video was meant to show the toll playing cricket had taken on their bodies, rather than to offend anyone. He expressed regret if anyone was hurt by the video and urged everyone to move forward positively. Manasi criticised Harbhajan and his teammates, including Suresh Raina, for their insensitive actions, stating that such behaviour could encourage bullying of children with disabilities.
She emphasised the importance of being mindful and respectful towards all individuals, calling out public figures for not taking responsibility for their actions. Harbhajan and his teammates have since apologised for the video and have pledged to be more considerate in the future.
