Head Names Gill as India's Next Cricket Superstar
Australian cricketer Travis Head, one of the brightest stars in the international cricket scene, has made his pick for India’s next big cricket sensation. Over the past 18 months, Head has established himself as a formidable force across all formats—Tests, ODIs, and T20s—playing a key role in Australia’s victories in the 2023 World Test Championship and the ODI World Cup. His explosive performances have also earned him the No. 1 T20 batter ranking, overtaking Suryakumar Yadav.
As Australia gears up for an action-packed white-ball series in England, followed by a home series against Pakistan and a highly anticipated five-match Test series against India, Head shared his thoughts on India’s rising stars during a recent Star Sports show. When asked to name India’s next cricketing superstar, while Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill were popular contenders, Head confidently selected Shubman Gill.
Gill, currently India’s vice-captain in ODIs and T20Is, has been noted not only for his outstanding performances but also for his leadership potential. Head’s Australian teammates weighed in as well, with players like Nathan Lyon, Steve Smith, Marnus Labuschagne, and Mitchell Starc praising Yashasvi Jaiswal’s talent. However, both Cameron Green and Head backed Gill to be India’s next standout player.
Both Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal will be in action as India faces Bangladesh in a two-match Test series, starting on September 19 in Chennai, followed by the second Test in Kanpur.
