Ihsanullah Janat has been banned from all cricket activities for five years

Afghanistan top-order batter Ihsanullah Janat has been banned from all cricket activities for five years due to corruption, effective immediately, the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) announced on Wednesday. The ban follows violations of the ACB's and ICC's anti-corruption codes during the second edition of the Kabul Premier League earlier this year.

Janat was found guilty of breaching Article 2.1.1 of the ICC Anti-Corruption Code, which pertains to efforts to fix match outcomes or other aspects of the game. He has admitted to the charges and confessed to his involvement in corrupt activities.

The ACB's anti-corruption unit is also investigating three other players for similar breaches, with decisions pending based on the outcomes of their investigations.

Janat, 26, played for Shamshad Eagles in the Kabul Premier League 2024, where he scored 72 runs in four innings. His team finished last with just one win from five matches.

Internationally, Ihsanullah has featured in 20 games for Afghanistan across formats. He made his ODI debut against Zimbabwe in February 2017 and has since played 15 more ODIs, scoring 307 runs (average 21.92), along with three Tests (110 runs at 22.00) and one T20I, his last appearance being in June 2022.

His brother, Nawroz Mangal, is a notable figure in Afghan cricket history, having captained the national team to ODI status in 2009 and T20 World Cup qualification in 2010.
