After leading the Kolkata Knight Riders to their third Indian Premier League trophy, Gautam Gambhir, the new head coach of the Indian Cricket Team, bid an emotional farewell to the city in a heartfelt video. In the clip, Gambhir expressed his deep connection to Kolkata, stating that he feels their joy and their pain, their victories and their losses as if they were his own. He described himself as being a part of Kolkata, just like any other resident.
Gambhir spoke about the special bond he shares with the city, referring to their journey as a story of success achieved together. He talked about the importance of creating legacies and forging new paths in the cherished Indian blue colour. Having previously led Kolkata Knight Riders to IPL victories in 2012 and 2014 as captain, he played a key role in their third title win in 2024 as a mentor.
Recently, BCCI Secretary Jay Shah announced Gambhir as the new head coach of the Indian men’s cricket team, expressing confidence in his ability to lead Indian Cricket to new heights. Gambhir, too, expressed his excitement about the new role, calling it the greatest privilege of his life to serve his country.
Gambhir took over as head coach from Rahul Dravid, who stepped down after India's T20 World Cup triumph. He vowed to make every Indian proud and work towards fulfilling the dreams of the nation's 1.4 billion people.
