India Aims for Series Sweep Against Bangladesh Amid Rain Concerns

The second and final Test of the India vs Bangladesh 2024 series is scheduled to start on Friday, September 27, at Kanpur’s Green Park Stadium. This match is crucial for India’s World Test Championship (WTC) campaign. After a comprehensive 208-run win in the first Test in Chennai, India is looking to complete a 2-0 series sweep, but looming rain could hinder their efforts.

According to AccuWeather, there's a 90% chance of rain and thunderstorms on Day 1, with similar conditions expected over the weekend—80% on Saturday and more than 50% on Sunday. While the forecast is more favourable for the final two days, potential delays and interruptions early in the match could reduce the chances of either team securing a result, frustrating India's hopes of a clean sweep.

This Test is particularly important for India as they aim to solidify their top spot in the WTC standings and increase their chances of reaching the WTC Final for the third consecutive time. Following this series, India will face New Zealand in a three-Test series before taking on Australia in a five-match Border-Gavaskar series, both critical to their WTC aspirations.

BCCI Confirms Unchanged Squad for 2nd Test

India has retained the same squad for the second Test, but given Kanpur’s spin-friendly conditions, captain Rohit Sharma may opt for an additional spinner. While Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja led the spin attack in Chennai, Axar Patel or Kuldeep Yadav could be added as a third spinner, likely replacing a pacer such as Mohammad Siraj or Akash Deep.

India Squad for 2nd Test: Rohit Sharma (captain), Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, Sarfaraz Khan, Rishabh Pant (wicketkeeper), Dhruv Jurel (wicketkeeper), R Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammad Siraj, Akash Deep, Jasprit Bumrah, Yash Dayal.
