India trying to become better for October’s Women’s T20 World Cup
In preparation for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in Bangladesh this October, India's Women's Cricket Team is currently engaged in a series against South Africa in Chennai. This series is serving as valuable practice for the team as they seek to adapt to conditions similar to those they will face in Bangladesh. Harmanpreet Kaur is leading the team, with a focus on enhancing consistency, especially in key moments, an aspect where they have faced challenges in T20Is despite their recent success in ODIs.
With Yastika Bhatia recovering from an injury, the competition for the No. 3 batting position is between Jemimah Rodrigues and D Hemalatha in the upcoming T20Is. Hemalatha's proficiency against spin bowlers could be vital, while Jemimah could provide a flexible alternative based on the match situation. The Women’s Premier League has been instrumental in providing exposure to the squad, aiding them in better preparation for the upcoming World Cup.
The spin bowling department, spearheaded by Deepti Sharma, also includes Shreyanka Patil, S Asha, and Radha Yadav, all in fine form. The challenge lies in finding the right combination, potentially incorporating Shreyanka’s off-spin alongside other options, given the all-round abilities of Harmanpreet and Hemalatha/Sajana with the ball.
Jemimah stressed the significance of maintaining consistency and intensity, particularly in crucial junctures, to enhance their performance in T20s against stronger opponents. The upcoming matches against South Africa and subsequent fixtures in the Asia Cup will play a vital role in refining their strategy and team composition in preparation for the World Cup.
