IPL 2025 Mega Auction Slated for December

The highly anticipated mega auction for the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) is set to take place in late November or early December, as reported by sources from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). The official rules and guidelines for the auction will be announced in the coming days, according to BCCI insiders.

This will be the third mega auction in the past decade, following similar events in 2014 and 2018, which marked the return of the Rajasthan Royals and Chennai Super Kings after their suspensions. The 2021 mega auction was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, leading teams to extend player contracts by an additional year.

BCCI sources confirmed to IANS, "The IPL 2025 auction is expected to take place in late November or early December, with official details to follow shortly."

Like the auctions held in 2022, 2023, and 2024, the upcoming mega auction is likely to span two days. In 2022, teams were allowed to retain up to four players, but with the end of the three-year retention cycle, discussions are underway among franchises on whether to increase the retention cap to eight or maintain the current limit of four to five players, with varying opinions across teams.
