Kapp Redefines the Allrounder Role and ball Excellence for SA
Marizanne Kapp is redefining the role of an all-rounder in South African cricket, proving that she can excel with bat and ball despite the demanding nature of both. With limited time left in her career, Kapp focuses on her abilities rather than her limitations. Reflecting on her pivotal 150 against England in the 2022 Test match, Kapp credits her mental preparation and a shift towards aggressive batting for her impressive performance. This match not only reignited her batting career but also significantly elevated her statistics, with 836 runs in 20 ODIs and substantial improvements in her T20s as well.
Previously in South Africa's middle order, Kapp now leads off at No. 3, adjusting her game to fit evolving team needs. She attributes her success to competitive leagues, which have helped her adapt to high-pressure situations, enhancing her performance in international matches.
As the team faces the challenge of replacing retired players like Shabnim Ismail, Kapp acknowledges the increased responsibility on her shoulders. She has taken charge of powerplay bowling, boasting impressive averages and wicket-taking abilities in the early overs. Despite health challenges, Kapp remains committed to maintaining her fitness and performance levels.
With her sights set on the 50-over World Cup, Kapp is determined to maximise her contributions, embracing the challenge of balancing her dual roles in cricket. Her renewed confidence allows her to thrive both as a batter and bowler for South Africa.
