Klaasen and Faf performed exceptionally well in a record-breaking IPL match

On Monday, the Sunrisers Hyderabad defeated the Royal Challengers Bengaluru by 25 runs, setting a new record for the highest-ever IPL total. Heinrich Klaasen contributed a half-century to the match.

After being invited to bat first by the hosts, Hyderabad scored 287-3, surpassing their previous record of 277 set last month.

Travis Head's 41-ball 102 was instrumental in achieving this feat. This new high is the second-best in a T20 match, with Nepal's 314-3 against Mongolia in last year's Asian Games in Hangzhou being the only higher score.

The match resulted in the highest aggregate for a T20 game, with a total of 549 runs.

RCB had a blazing start with Virat Kohli (42) and captain Faf du Plessis (62), before Dinesh Karthik smashed 83 off 35 balls, leading Bengaluru to end on 262-7.

Captain Pat Cummins and spinner Mayank Markande took five wickets between them, breaking the back of the Bengaluru chase.

However, the batsmen dominated at the M.Chinnaswamy Stadium as Hyderabad hit the most sixes in an IPL innings, with 22 flying over the fence.

Head reached his century in just 39 balls, making it the fourth-fastest hundred in the competition and setting the tone for the assault.

He and Abhishek Sharma put on a 108-run opening partnership, with Sharma contributing 34 runs.

Head, who was the match winner for Australia in the final of the ODI World Cup in India last year, hit nine fours and eight sixes.

After his departure, Klaasen took charge with his 31-ball 67. The South African was almost as punishing as Head, smashing the ball to all parts of the ground before being dismissed by Lockie Ferguson.

Fellow South African Aiden Markram (32) and Indian batsman Abdul Samad (37) combined for a 59-run partnership off just 19 balls in the final stages.

Samad hit three fours and two sixes off England left-arm fast bowler Reece Topley in the 19th over, before he and Markram finished with 21 runs from the last over.

Hyderabad scored 277-3 against the Mumbai Indians at their home ground on 27 March, surpassing Bengaluru's 263-5 in 2013.

Earlier this month, the Kolkata Knight Riders scored 272-7 in a dominant 106-run victory over the Delhi Capitals.

Kohli, who was in-form, attempted to lead the chase with a powerful start, hitting six fours and two sixes. Du Plessis also contributed until his departure.

Despite losing wickets, Bengaluru's bottom-placed team managed to reduce the losing margin thanks to Karthik's late assault.
