Kohli's dedication to fitness and a diet

Virat Kohli’s Diet: Here’s an in-depth look at the dietary habits that keep the former India and RCB captain in peak physical condition at 34 years old.

Widely regarded as one of the greatest batsmen in cricket history, both in India and globally, Virat Kohli is not only celebrated for his on-field performances but also for his unwavering commitment to fitness and disciplined diet. Recognised as one of the fittest athletes worldwide, Kohli’s exceptional conditioning and athletic prowess consistently draw attention, whether during matches or in everyday life. He has frequently emphasised the role of his rigorous workout regimen and the importance of a strict diet in maintaining peak fitness.

Kohli’s dietary discipline has captivated not just cricket fans, but fitness enthusiasts globally. His focus on health and nutrition has set a high standard in the sport, inspiring teammates and fans alike to take their own fitness seriously.

In a 2023 interview with Star Sports, the former India and Royal Challengers Bangalore captain shared insights into his fitness journey, emphasising the challenges of balancing nutrition with physical training.

“When you’re on your fitness journey, you explore all sorts of elements—vitamins, hydration, protein—until you find what truly works for you. Striking the right balance is the tough part. The biggest challenge I’ve faced is related to food. You can push yourself hard in the gym, but getting your nutrition right is a whole different game. It’s connected to your cravings and mental ties to food,” Kohli explained.

He also highlighted his commitment to a strict diet, mentioning that he could easily stick to the same meals three times a day for six months without difficulty.

Kohli revealed that 90% of his meals consist of steamed and boiled foods with minimal spices. He occasionally adds just a touch of salt, pepper, or lime, but doesn’t prioritise flavour. He also avoids traditional Indian masala curries entirely.

“90% of my meals are steamed or boiled with no masalas—just salt, pepper, and lime. I’m not bothered by taste; it doesn’t concern me. I do enjoy salads with dressing and pan-grilled food with some olive oil. I avoid curries, though I include dal (lentils) and can’t skip rajma and lobhiya since I’m Punjabi,” Kohli shared.

Back in 2018, Kohli spoke about health issues he encountered, such as acidity, high uric acid levels, and calcium deficiency. In response, he switched to a vegetarian diet, eliminating meat to improve his health.

Reports suggest that Kohli’s breakfast often includes nut butter on gluten-free bread, and he drinks 3-4 cups of green tea with lemon daily. His lunch usually features vegetable soup, broth, grilled vegetables, beetroot, and spinach. His dinner is similar, consisting of a hearty portion of grilled vegetables along with soup.
