Legendary Spinner Mushtaq Ahmed to Coach Bangladesh for Pakistan Test Series

Renowned leg-spinner Mushtaq Ahmed is set to join the Bangladesh national cricket team as their spin bowling coach for the upcoming two-match Test series against Pakistan. Mushtaq, who previously coached Bangladesh's spin bowling unit during the 2024 T20 World Cup in the USA and West Indies, had recently been involved with the England U-19 team.

BCB’s cricket operations chairman, Jalal Younus, confirmed in Mirpur on Wednesday that Mushtaq would be available for the Pakistan series. Younus mentioned that Mushtaq has other commitments, keeping him busy until December.

Younus also expressed Bangladesh's interest in securing a long-term contract with Mushtaq, noting that while it is uncertain if they will secure his services, they are hopeful based on positive indications.

Under Mushtaq's guidance, Bangladesh’s spinners, including leg-spinner Rishad Ahmed, have shown considerable improvement. This progress has encouraged the BCB to seek a longer-term agreement with the former Pakistan star.

The Bangladesh team is set to depart for Pakistan in the second week of August. The first Test will commence on August 21 in Rawalpindi, with the second Test scheduled from August 30 to September 3 in Karachi.
