Markram excels in Sunrisers' victory

In their six-wicket IPL win against the Chennai Super Kings on Friday, Aiden Markram was the top scorer for the Sunrisers Hyderabad.

The Proteas T20I captain scored 50 runs off 36 balls, while Heinrich Klaasen scored 10* off 11. The Sunrisers overhauled the Super Kings' below-par total of 165-5 with 11 balls to spare at the packed Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium.

The win lifted Hyderabad to fifth in the 10-team competition with two wins from four matches. Chennai, under the leadership of the charismatic MS Dhoni, are third after their second defeat in as many matches.

Hyderabad started strongly with opener Abhishek Sharma hitting 27 runs, including three sixes and two fours, in the second over by Mukesh Choudhary.

But Deepak Chahar cut short his heroics. He had Sharma caught by Ravindra Jadeja for 37.

Markram then stabilized the innings with his composed knock before being trapped lbw by England's Moeen Ali.

Ali then struck again in his next over to dismiss Shahbaz Ahmed (18), leaving the home crowd stunned into silence.

Klassen and Nitish Kumar Reddy ensured there were no further setbacks to help Chennai chase down the required total.

Chennai started slowly after being put in to bat, with openers Rachin Ravindra (12) and Gaikwad (26) taking a cautious approach.

Shivam Dube provided a boost to the innings with a quickfire 45 off 24 balls, including four sixes and two fours.

He looked set for a bigger knock. But he was caught at backward point by Australian fast bowling star Pat Cummins.

Ajinkya Rahane (35) and Ravindra Jadeja (31*) made useful contributions, but Hyderabad's bowlers kept the batsmen in check.

A disciplined bowling performance restricted CSK to only 37 runs in the last five overs.
