Markram Lauds Proteas After Historic Win

South Africa’s Test captain, Aiden Markram, celebrated his team’s emphatic innings and 273-run victory over Bangladesh in Chattogram, marking South Africa’s first Test series win in the subcontinent in a decade. After declaring at 575/6, the Proteas bowled Bangladesh out twice in a single day, securing the win with two days to spare.

Markram emphasised the significance of this win, especially as the Proteas chased a spot in the World Test Championship (WTC) final. “Winning for the first time in 10 years on the subcontinent is very special. It’s been a challenging journey, but we’re showing what we’re capable of,” he said.

South Africa will next face Sri Lanka in a two-Test series starting November 27, followed by a home series against Pakistan. A strong performance in these matches could secure their place in the WTC final at Lord’s in June.

Reflecting on the team’s recent performances, Markram noted progress across formats. Though a young Proteas squad struggled in recent limited-overs series, their full-strength team reached the T20 World Cup final. “Competing strongly in both formats is encouraging. Our journey has been tough, but we believe we have the players to lift a trophy.”
