Karabo Meso, a 16-year-old wicketkeeper-batter, has received her first ODI call-up. She is part of the 14-member squad for South Africa's three-match series against Sri Lanka starting on April 9 in East London.
Chloe Tryon, who missed the third T20I due to a back injury, will not be playing in the series as she continues her rehabilitation. Annerie Dercksen, who was part of the T20I series that South Africa lost 2-1, has been left out. Delmi Tucker, an allrounder, has replaced her on the side:
"It's a big loss with the injury of Chloe as an allrounder, that's why Delmi has come into the squad and she can give you the offspin option, and with her batting. In these conditions, we never know this time of year what to expect on our surfaces. So we make sure that we have all our angles covered and overall we're just excited to make sure that we finish off on a high and go into our off-season."
Meso made her debut for South Africa in the second T20I against Sri Lanka in Potchefstroom. She came in at No. 8 and was dismissed for a two-ball duck by Chamari Athapaththu. In the third match, she did not score any runs, arriving at the crease with just one ball left in the innings. Tucker, on the other hand, has played one Test, seven ODIs, and 14 T20Is. She has scored 53 runs and taken three wickets in the seven ODIs she has played.
The ODI series is part of the ICC Women's Championship, which determines qualification for the 50-over World Cup. Currently, South Africa is second on the table with 20 points, having won ten out of 15 matches.
Following the opening ODI in East London, South Africa and Sri Lanka will play their second match in Kimberley on April 13, and the third in Potchefstroom on April 17.
