Mitchell Marsh describes Australia as "nice and relaxed" at the T20 World Cup

Maintaining Australia's "nice and relaxed" demeanour while they aim for a record triple crown of trophies across the game's three formats at the World Cup is one of new Twenty20 skipper Mitchell Marsh's top priorities.

The relaxed all-rounder leads a seasoned and composed 15-man team for the June competition, hoping to atone for their inability to get past the knockout stages at the previous edition in 2022 held on home territory.

With the official nomination of Marsh as captain this month to succeed the departed Aaron Finch, the former most-maligned player in Australia has become one of its most revered.

He was long expected to be excellent; he made his debut for his country at the age of 19 in 2011 and was named vice-captain of the Test team following the controversial ball-tampering incident in 2018.

But after a series of setbacks, Marsh was removed from all game formats and lost his national contract.

Chief selector George Bailey, who is now enjoying a strong comeback to favour, is optimistic that he can motivate Australia to emulate their achievements as the reigning one-day and Test world champions.

Pat Cummins, a member of the team who chose not to take the captaincy, was responsible for such accomplishments.

"I think he's just got the natural characteristics of someone who is very genuine (and shows) good care around others," Bailey said of Marsh, whose father Geoff and brother Shaun both played for Australia.
