Mohsin Naqvi Set to Become Next ACC Chief

Mohsin Naqvi, the chief of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), is poised to take over as the next president of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) following the completion of Jay Shah's tenure next year. The ACC selects its leaders through a rotational policy, with the PCB next in line for the role. This matter was discussed at a recent ACC meeting, where hosts for the upcoming Asia Cups were also determined. A source reported that during the ACC's next meeting later this year, Naqvi's appointment for a two-year term as president would be confirmed.

The source also mentioned that once Shah steps down, the PCB chief will assume the ACC presidency. Regarding the Asia Cup, the 2025 edition will be hosted in India and played in the T20 format as a lead-up to the 2026 T20 World Cup. Meanwhile, the 2027 edition, scheduled in Bangladesh, will be in the ODI format to align with that year's World Cup.

A point of interest will be whether Pakistan opts for a hybrid model for its matches in the Asia Cup, as an alternative to travelling to India. In the 2023 edition, India did not travel to Pakistan due to security concerns, with their matches held in Sri Lanka instead. This decision was made under the leadership of BCCI secretary Jay Shah, who was the ACC chief at that time.

Later in the year, despite initial hesitation, Pakistan participated in the ODI World Cup hosted by India. Additionally, Pakistan is set to host the 2025 Champions Trophy, with reports suggesting uncertainty over India's participation in the host country. The International Cricket Council (ICC) has reportedly allocated additional funds to potentially accommodate India's matches outside of Pakistan, should that be necessary.
