Nayeem Hasan Sees Chattogram Pitch as Key to Bangladesh’s Team Recovery

Bangladesh off-spinner Nayeem Hasan is optimistic that the slower, spin-friendly conditions in Chattogram will aid Bangladesh's plans for a comeback in the second Test against South Africa. Trailing 0-1, Bangladesh is eager to capitalise on the Chattogram pitch, which Nayeem believes will benefit both batters and spinners more than the faster surface in Dhaka.

During practice at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium (ZACS) on October 27, Nayeem expressed confidence in Bangladesh’s spin trio, noting the advantage of Chattogram’s slower turn. “Our pitch here usually offers slower spin, which is good for us. Players like Mominul bhai and Mushy bhai handle spin well here,” he remarked, suggesting that Chattogram’s conditions would better suit Bangladesh’s batting lineup.

Reflecting on his performance at ZACS against Sri Lanka in 2022, where he took six wickets, Nayeem said, "Alhamdulillah, the last time I played on this ground, I took six wickets. I’m focused on preparation, aiming to correct mistakes from the last match.” Though his place in the starting XI is uncertain, as Bangladesh may include another pacer, Nayeem remains committed to contributing if selected.

"We’re hopeful of levelling the series," Nayeem concluded. "InshaAllah, we’re all focused on sticking to our process, not on the result, and I’ll give my best to secure a win for Bangladesh if I play."
