Nick Hockley will step down as Cricket Australia CEO in March 2025, ending a five-year tenure. Hockley, who joined CA in various roles over 13 years, initially served as interim CEO during the Covid-19 pandemic after Kevin Roberts resigned amid staff stand-downs.
He was appointed full-time in May 2021, successfully guiding the sport through the pandemic, including hosting the Test series against India. Hockley cited the completion of CA's five-year strategic plan and the upcoming blockbuster summer as reasons for his decision, ensuring ample time for the Board to find his successor.
His final season will feature India's five-Test series and the Women's Ashes. Hockley navigated challenges such as disputes with broadcaster Channel Seven, a controversial leadership ban for David Warner, and the departure of Tim Paine as Test captain. Despite these issues, his tenure saw significant on-field success, including World Cup victories and a historic tour of Pakistan.
Hockley also led the implementation of CA's Multicultural Action Plan to boost participation among South Asian communities. CA Chair Mike Baird praised Hockley for his leadership during unprecedented challenges and for securing major deals that ensure the sport's future success.
Before becoming CEO, Hockley led the 2020 T20 Women’s World Cup committee and worked on the 2015 Men’s World Cup and the London Olympics. Cricket Australia will conduct a global search for his successor, with Todd Greenberg, CEO of the Australia Cricketers' Association, a likely candidate if he expresses interest.
