Northern Superchargers secured a victory over Birmingham Phoenix

Northern Superchargers secured their spot in the top three of The Hundred women's competition with a commanding win over Birmingham Phoenix. This victory, which saw the Superchargers dismiss Phoenix for just 54 runs, the lowest total in the tournament’s history, brought them level on points with second-placed Oval Invincibles. This came just days after Superchargers had previously set the lowest score record by bowling out Invincibles for 64 at The Kia Oval.

Winning the toss and opting to bat, Superchargers faced a crucial match with only one point separating the teams in the standings. Phoenix captain Ellyse Perry made an impact early on, dismissing Superchargers’ captain Holly Armitage with her first ball and later removing Phoebe Litchfield. Perry ended with the best figures for Phoenix, 2 for 13.

Despite a shaky start, Annabel Sutherland and Alice Davidson-Richards steadied the innings, advancing from 25 for 3 to 68 for 3 before Sutherland was dismissed by Emily Arlott. Davidson-Richards played a crucial role, remaining unbeaten with 49 off 42 balls, guiding Superchargers to a total of 115 for 5 from their 100 balls on a challenging pitch.

Phoenix’s response faltered as they crumbled to 14 for 4, losing key players like Sterre Kalis, Perry, Amy Jones, and Richa Ghosh. Superchargers’ bowlers capitalized on every opportunity, with Kate Cross taking a standout catch and Linsey Smith and Georgia Wareham each claiming 3 for 12, including two quick wickets by Smith towards the end.
