Gautam Gambhir and Virat Kohli have reconciled their past differences, with Gambhir now appointed as the head coach of the Indian men's cricket team. However, new details have emerged about their infamous altercation during the IPL 2023 match between Lucknow Super Giants and Royal Challengers Bengaluru.
In an interview with Shubhbankar Mishra on his YouTube show 'Unplugged,' veteran cricketer Amit Mishra revealed that the conflict began when Gambhir, serving as LSG's mentor, gestured to the crowd to quiet down after a victory. This action upset Kohli, leading him to verbally confront LSG players, including Kyle Myers and Naveen-ul-Haq, during the rematch in Lucknow.
Amit noted that Kohli's behavior escalated throughout the match, with him verbally attacking Naveen-ul-Haq. When Amit attempted to intervene, Kohli insisted that Amit explain the situation to Naveen instead. Tensions continued to rise after the match, with Kohli still exchanging insults during the post-match handshake.
Amit emphasized the importance of respecting junior players, citing examples from legends like Sachin Tendulkar and MS Dhoni. He recalled how Tendulkar remained composed even after being hit by a beamer from Brett Lee, ultimately earning Lee's respect. Amit stressed the need for aggression to be accompanied by respect and dignity, highlighting the professionalism shown by cricketing icons like Tendulkar and Dhoni.
