Praveen Jayawickrama has been charged with multiple violations

Sri Lanka's left-arm spinner Praveen Jayawickrama has been charged with multiple violations of the ICC's anti-corruption code, specifically related to corrupt approaches in international matches and the Lanka Premier League (LPL).

As outlined in an ICC statement, the 25-year-old Jayawickrama faces charges under articles 2.4.4 and 2.4.7 of the code for the following reasons:

1. Failing to promptly report to the Anti-Corruption Unit details of an approach he received regarding the potential fixing of future international matches.

2. Failing to promptly report an approach in which he was solicited to contact another player on behalf of a corruptor to engage in fixing during the 2021 LPL.

3. Hindering the investigation by deleting messages that contained the details of the approaches and offering to participate in corrupt activities.

Jayawickrama has 14 days from August 6 to address the charges. In a collaborative decision, Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) and the ICC have agreed that the ICC will handle the charges related to the LPL along with those concerning international matches.

Having made his international debut in a Test against Bangladesh in April 2021, Jayawickrama has since participated in five Tests, five ODIs, and five T20Is. His most recent outing for Sri Lanka was during a T20I series at home against Australia in 2022.

During the 2021 LPL, Jayawickrama was part of the Jaffna Kings squad that claimed their second championship, playing in just one match where he recorded two wickets. In the upcoming LPL 2024 season, he is set to compete for the Dambulla Sixers.
