Press Conference With Head Coach Of India
During his debut press conference as the head coach of the Indian cricket team (ICT), Gautam Gambhir tackled a variety of questions, including queries about his rapport with Virat Kohli. Known for his direct manner, Gambhir addressed speculations of any strain between himself and Kohli, which arose from their past clashes on the field in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
Regarding his relationship with Virat Kohli, Gambhir swiftly dismissed any notion of discord, emphasising that their interactions are a private matter founded on mutual professionalism and respect. "While it may be intriguing for the public, the nature of my relationship with Virat Kohli is not for public consumption. It is a matter between two mature individuals," stated Gambhir.
He made a clear distinction between competitive spirit on the field and camaraderie off it, highlighting that as representatives of India and its population of 140 crore, he and Kohli must be unified in their efforts to uphold the nation's pride.
Gambhir reiterated that both he and Kohli share a common objective - to represent India with dignity, emphasising their commitment to the national team and their professional decorum. "Off the field, I have a strong bond with Kohli and we will continue to maintain that," he reaffirmed, stressing their harmonious professional relationship.
Additionally, Gambhir revealed the support staff for India's forthcoming tour of Sri Lanka, which includes Abhishek Nayar as Assistant Coach, Sairaj Bahutule as Interim Bowling Coach, T Dilip as Fielding Coach, and Ryan ten Doeschate set to join the team in Colombo.
