Proteas Arrived in Dhaka for Test Series

The South African cricket team has arrived in Dhaka ahead of their two-match Test series against Bangladesh, set to take place later this month. This will be the Proteas' first Test series in Bangladesh since 2015, where both matches were drawn due to rain. Historically, South Africa has dominated the Tigers, winning all 14 other Test encounters between the two sides.

The first Test is scheduled to begin on October 21 in Dhaka, with the second match starting on October 29 in Chattogram. Despite some uncertainty surrounding the tour following political changes in Bangladesh, the Proteas decided to proceed after receiving security assurances.

South Africa's regular captain, Temba Bavuma, has travelled with the squad but will miss the opening Test due to injury. Aiden Markram is set to lead the team in Bavuma’s absence.

In a coincidental arrival, Bangladesh's new head coach, Phil Simmons, landed on the same flight as the South African team. Simmons, a former West Indies all-rounder, was appointed head coach for Bangladesh on Saturday, with a contract extending until the 2025 Champions Trophy, following the suspension of Chandika Hathurusingha.

South Africa Squad: Temba Bavuma (captain), David Bedingham, Matthew Breetzke, Dewald Brevis, Tony de Zorzi, Keshav Maharaj, Aiden Markram, Wiaan Mulder, Senuran Muthusamy, Lungi Ngidi, Dane Paterson, Dane Piedt, Kagiso Rabada, Tristan Stubbs, Ryan Rickelton, Kyle Verreynne.
