Bangladesh, after opting to bat, struggled as four of their top six batsmen failed to reach double figures. Mahmudul Hasan Joy top-scored with 30. Rabada, Wiaan Mulder, and Keshav Maharaj each took three wickets for South Africa, with Rabada dismissing Mushfiqur Rahim and Litton Das to reach 301 career wickets.
In reply, South Africa reached 140-6 by stumps, with Wiaan Mulder and Kyle Verreynne remaining unbeaten on 17 and 18, respectively. Hasan Mahmud removed Aiden Markram early for six, while Taijul Islam took five wickets, including Tristan Stubbs and David Bedingham, to bring Bangladesh back into the game.
This is Bangladesh’s first international cricket match since a political revolution ousted the former government. Bangladesh missed all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan, who had announced his retirement but was unable to play due to security concerns. The second Test will begin on October 29 in Chattogram.
