Rahim's contribution to the Test match

Mushfiqur Rahim delivered a brilliant performance, scoring a remarkable 191 runs and forging a record-breaking partnership with Mehidy Hasan Miraz during Bangladesh's thrilling win over Pakistan in the first Test of their two-match series. Reflecting on his innings, the former Bangladesh captain expressed his pride, stating, "This is one of my best innings, especially considering our challenges overseas. The entire team put in a lot of hard work, both in Pakistan and back home."

He also credited the coaching staff and management for their support: "We had a two-and-a-half-month break before the Test series, and everyone, including the white-ball players from the World Cup, remained focused and ready. I’m thankful for the backing I’ve received. Playing with skilled teammates like Shanto motivates me to give my best for my country. I also want to donate my prize money to aid those affected by the recent floods in Bangladesh."

The Rawalpindi Test started slowly due to a wet outfield, but it turned into a gripping contest by Day 5. Despite only 41 overs being bowled on Day 1, Bangladesh made early inroads by taking four crucial wickets.

On Day 2, Pakistan fought back through Mohammad Rizwan and Saud Shakeel, both of whom scored centuries. Rizwan’s unbeaten 171 was especially noteworthy as he battled through cramps. Pakistan declared at 448/6, aiming for a result.

In reply, Bangladesh’s Mushfiqur Rahim (191) and Shadman Islam (93) led the charge on Day 4, frustrating the Pakistani bowlers. Both fell just short of reaching major milestones.

On the final day, Pakistan’s batting crumbled, collapsing from 23/1 to 146 all out, with Rizwan being the lone warrior with a gritty half-century. Bangladesh’s spinners dominated, with Mehidy Hasan Miraz taking four wickets and Shakib Al Hasan adding three.

Bangladesh needed just 30 runs to seal a famous win, which they achieved in under seven overs without losing a wicket, securing a 1-0 lead in the series in this historic victory.
