Rahul Dravid, the head coach of the Indian cricket team, praised Virat Kohli for leading the team to victory in the T20 World Cup 2024 and encouraged him to set his sights on the next goal: winning the World Test Championship (WTC). Following India's triumph over South Africa in Barbados, Dravid urged Kohli to strive for the WTC title, the only major trophy missing from his impressive collection.
In a stylish move, Kohli bid adieu to his T20I career by announcing his retirement after the victorious match. The ICC shared a video on Instagram capturing the Indian team's jubilant celebrations in the dressing room, with Kohli kissing the trophy for a memorable moment. Dravid, in his message to Kohli, emphasised the importance of clinching the T20 World Cup, ODI World Cup, and Champions Trophy titles before channelling all his focus on the WTC.
Despite coming painfully close to winning the WTC in 2021 and 2023, India fell short in the final hurdle against New Zealand and Australia. With his retirement from T20Is, Kohli will now shift his attention to ODIs and Tests in pursuit of the prestigious WTC trophy.
Kohli's stellar performance in the final match, where he scored 76 runs off 59 deliveries, played a crucial role in India's triumph and earned him the Player of the Match accolade. The victory not only secured India's second T20 World Cup title but also brought an end to a 13-year drought of World Cup trophies for the team.
