Rain Washes Out South Africa vs Pakistan Third T20I
The third T20I between South Africa and Pakistan in Johannesburg was abandoned without a ball being bowled due to unrelenting rain. The match, scheduled at the Wanderers, faced initial delays caused by lightning in the area. However, as the lightning subsided, a persistent drizzle set in, halting any chance of play.
Despite the Wanderers’ excellent drainage system and the ground staff’s readiness to prepare the field, their efforts were thwarted by recurring downpours. An official inspection was scheduled when the rain eased momentarily, but before it could proceed, the showers returned, forcing further delays.
After a two-hour wait, the match was officially called off, with South Africa’s Heinrich Klaasen and Pakistan’s Mohammad Rizwan shaking hands by the dugouts. With this washout, South Africa clinched the three-match T20I series 2-0, having secured victories in the first two games by 11 runs and seven wickets, respectively.
The teams will now head to Paarl for the first of three ODIs, followed by matches in Cape Town and the Pink ODI back at the Wanderers. The tour will conclude with two Test matches in Centurion and Cape Town.
