Ranjan Madugalle is the first who oversee 400 ODIs

Ranjan Madugalle has become the first match referee to oversee 400 ODIs, marking this milestone during the third ODI between India and Sri Lanka at Khettarama.

Madugalle, who began his career as a match referee in 1993, has also officiated over 200 Test matches, a record in itself. He previously served as the ICC's chief match referee until the role was discontinued.

Simon Taufel, the former elite-panel umpire and ex-ICC umpire performance and training manager, praised Madugalle's achievement. "Ranjan's longevity is extraordinary," Taufel remarked. "He was a key figure at the start and end of my international umpiring career. His service to Sri Lanka, the ICC, and cricket has been exemplary. This milestone underscores his dedication and love for the sport."

In an ICC statement, Madugalle expressed his delight at achieving this milestone. He noted that reaching this landmark feels almost dreamlike, stating, “It has been a tremendous honour to officiate in international cricket for over three decades. I never imagined that my post-cricket career would extend for such a length of time.”

Madugalle reflected on his global officiating experience, including his involvement in several World Cups, and expressed his gratitude to the ICC, Sri Lanka Cricket, his colleagues, and his family for their steadfast support and friendship.

Before his refereeing career, Madugalle played 21 Tests and 63 ODIs for Sri Lanka as a batsman.
